How do I find people to play with when r new?

Sign in to disble this ad
Guys and Gals. What is a good way to find people to play with when you are getting started late in life.

Forums
Craigslist
club / bar scene

I am practicing and taking a weekly lesson for one hour. I can play four songs now that my teacher states is acceptable!
I had two guys to practice once a week with but it only lasted a few months and now its been two months since I have played with someone. I wanted to post Talkbass first before I placed some craigslist ad.

I appreciate any suggestions.

Band mates are usually friends. Ask your friends if they have any friends that play music. Try that.
Your church may have a praise band. Go watch them rehearse, they may ask you to sit in.

Talk to your instructor have him suggest one of two of his students that you could see about starting a garage band or jamming circle with.

Good luck.

Be sure to check out any open mikes or jam sessions held in your area.

Open mikes are a good idea. Craig's list is hit-or-miss. Lots of weirdos out there, but I've had some good luck. What happened to the people you were playing with? Can you re-start that?

It's great that you know 4 songs but overall, it may not be enough to get a group together on a regular basis.

If you know the blues and it's variations, you can jam/open mic pretty much with anyone.

Check out the "Bass Styles" link in my sig. below for some great TB info on getting into the blues.

Knowing/learning bass can go way beyond learning "songs".

Good luck.
