You have to put the computer's keyboard down first.

That must be my problem too. Oh well, off to play Madden with my boy!

I actually practice most every day.

This is a quote.

"You just press down on the neck there."

"C'mon, you just hit it!"

--Flea

From the "Adventures in Spontaneous Jamming/Improvisation" instructional DVD.

The "instructional" part is up for debate, but it's definitely a neat glimpse of 1992 Flea. And, it's done interview style with River Pheonix, who, by the by, is wearing purple pants with black shoes and white socks.

It's not hard to remember how much the early 90's looked like the 80's.

At least 1-2 hours everyday, usually more on the weekends. Not including band practice/gigs. But that's my problem. I play, but I don't learn anything because I don't practice right.

Bah, just kind of venting I suppose.

I think you're supposed to hit the keys and thwack the head with a drumstick.

Talking Usually. . .

I like to use my DIGITS! No picks in this household!!! (Only when I feel like once again trying to figure out why anybody uses one, which usually doesn't last too long!)

If you mean you don't know how I play the bass, I'll tell you. Very loudly, & sometimes in rhythm w/the rest of the band. But always loud. Now you know. Glad I could clear this up!

Talking Not sure if a thread like this has already been started, but. . .

How often and for how long does everybody practice regulary and how often and long would they LIKE to practice? . . .

I'll start. . .

Considering I'm in middle school and have to be in bed by 10:30 PM, plus, I've got swimming from 4:45-6:00, I practice probably about 45-60 minutes on a bad day, 1-2 hours on a good day.

Well then veteran take some tips from a super beginner

I am celebrating my one month anniversary with my bass guitar although I have been learning about music for the last 3 months.

First of all

You might consider buying a meternome and if you already have one, increase the tempo of the tunes you already know until you can no longer hit it accurately. Work your way from the bass up building speed (no pun intended)

Next do you know how to read music? I am learning right now using a bass method book and it can really help you to have to read something so you dont look at your hands while you play.

Do you implement the use of multiple styles. Can you transition smoothly between these styles. Have you tried mixing reggae mutes and rock bass lines. Something to consider.

Can you solo an entire piece of music by yourself?

If not these are all things that you might consider working on. Whenever I have practiced each day I try and practice with a set goal of what I want to learn that day. So if your goal is to play faster, hit harder, learn to slide on a tap whatever make a goal and meet it.

There's one trick to it - practice what you don't know how to play - not what you do know!!

When asked this question, Mike Watt once said (something close to), "Just grab the neck and strangle it!"
