How the heck am I supposed to use Bass Guitar for Dummies??

The book doesn't seem user-friendly. I remember buying it 2 years ago and looking through it saying "Ah, this seems interesting." I remember I bought it and read some of the stuff and tossed it aside. I picked it up a year later and tried to learn bass "seriously" with that book and it was hard to learn anything because the author assumes you know everything about music theory.

I tried to pick it up just now because I am currently in a band and I thought it would help. My question is... how the heck am i supposed to use this book??? I dont want to spend more money on another book.

BTW: I only learned basic scales before this book and all the notes on the fretboard. Basically, I only relearned some scales I already knew.

I used this book back before I really knew much theory. It teaches you some basic music theory: rhythm, chords and scales.
Chapter 3 teaches how to read rhythm.
Chapter 5 talks about building basic scales and chords. Honestly it doesn't get much more basic than that. All the music comes with tab so you can use it even if you can't read bass clef.

If you're still having trouble I suggest www.musictheory.net it has some good lessons as well as reading training tools. best part is....ITS FREE!

I'm not sure what you are reading, but any book that describes what a scale is and what chords are is starting at a fairly fundamental place. Maybe you are looking too far ahead?

Or you could just return it and buy a real method book.

If anything, use it for the references I'm guessing are in it.

It's more of a reference book than a lesson book. It has a lot of info, but I don't think it necessarily "teaches" the way a book like Hal Leonard's Complete Bass Method would.
