| | | | How I can play straight 8ths in a pop or rock song???
Sign in to disble this ad
I am more a Jazz-fusion bass player, now I am starting to play in a professional pop-rock band, where some of the songs require me to play straight 8ths over the chord tones.
I get more into the groove if I play those straight 8ths accenting different parts of the drum, for example the snare. I notice all the different dynamics that can vary the approach of the song and that it is not so easy to master.
I have some question about playing this type of bass lines
Do you think it is common to play the straight 8ths doing some accents to the drum back beat, or to the 1 of some measures?? I can do this or it is very strange for the style???????
do you think it is better to play the 8ts flat obiously variyng the dynamics from part to part or song to song???
How can I make that thing groovy???
Thanks |

It's frustrating at first, but when you get the hang of it, its fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DkOYG...os=29l3k0rq054

Might try -- With 8's I do a lot of doubles -- R-R- and then fill the measure with whatever other double chord tones seem to fit.
R-3-5-6-8-7-6-5 is a basic riff I like.
Watch for the fish eyes.

and do yourself a favor and listen to some ac/dc. cliff is the king of making 8th notes sound great.

You may be trying to complicate things abit..
get metronome solid.. then focus on how you sing and stage presence..
The bass role in this type of stuff is not as difficult than what you're used to...
I struggled with this when I got my first road gig... tons of time learning stuff that's irrevant in commercial music.... years to learn it.. a talk with a boss to realize I was going all Jaco over a simple 3 chord tune.
