IMO, the job of a bassist is not to gain accolades, but to glue together the others who do. If you can do that and still be creative, you'll gain accolades.... it's not all just about how dextrous and fast you are.

One of the things I've found in my experience is that women- both young and old- hear music as a whole and not it's parts separately. Usually they don't know which part is the bass...but that's the part of the music they respond to!

On a recent gig I got a surprise: I'm 45 years old and not very attractive, but I looked to my left and there were some young hotties gleefully dancing and cheering at me and ME SPECIFICALLY... why?... because they were right next to my amp and heard that I was the one playing the part of the song that makes them move.

All my ex-girlfriends back it up: they didn't know what bass was until they met me, and now it's they hear it clearly in music and have a GREAT appreciation for it and know a bad bassist when they hear it.
