If you pluck each note finger style it simply won't sound like a "rake" or a "drag" or whatever you want to call how it was originally done. Why are you opposed to learning how to play with your thumb?

^ For this song, I do play it thumb. I'm saying that the same concept is used in songs that are not thumb though. I was using this song as an example of the sound and the speed at which it is played.

Not exactly sure what you're talking about - do you have the min/sec of the lick in question?

really, regardless of your style of technique, you should be able to do this. if you can't, sounds like it's time to hit the shed. not trying to be harsh or anything, but this is an example of how you don't need chops just to play flashy, but you need chops so that you can play whatever you need to when it comes up.
