I like tuners because they simply save time. You really can't get by without one, and I would think trying to learn to play w/o one would be causing you to learn notes and scales all wrong at first. Then you'd have to relearn everything ! Also, I find it humourous that my guitarist friends who don't "need" tuners end up having to tune off of my freshly tuned bass anyway before we jam...

Give me a break rafterman saying that ALL punk bassists have no thory knowledge and treat basses like guitars is the most ignorant statement I have ever read on here. Ever heard of Mike Dirnt, Matt Freeman? I bet those guys know theory and can back up and band anyday!

Hmm..

The choking victim bassist (now with leftover krack) is a pretty badass bassist as well.. Oh, and btw, mike watt is one of the best bassists alive and he's punk.. Go figure
