I need help considering which bass to buy.

Hey, just stopping by for some advice from you guys. Hope that's ok:P

I've been playing bass for almost 6 years now and have played the same pawnshop Washburn the whole time. However I broke it playing at a small venue last weekend when my stap snapped dropping it to the ground. I play indie/lofi/pop music and I really like smooth, bright, poppy tones. Like The Unicorns if you listen to them. Just simple bass not slap or anything like that.

Anyways I've been looking through the used basses on musiciansfriend and have found the following ones that seemed close to what I was looking for. I'm leaning towards the SR300. Any advice would be much appreciated about which bass I should get.
Dean Bass
Squier Jazz Bass
Ibanez SR300(first pick)
Nice Epiphone Bass
Squeir P Bass
Epiphone Viola Bass(thought it might spice things up)

Thanks in advance!

hey man i dont know about those basses, but i have played the mod'd jazz and its really nice. id suggest goin to your local GC or music shop and trying any of those out. plus it never hurts to look on CL and try them out and just tell them you dont like the bass, then again if you do you've already had time to try it out. =]

I cant advise you on the list you gave. However, you might like to consider a G&L L 2000 Tribute. They are one of the most versatile basses tone wise. Ed Friedland give a demonstration here.

Thanks for the input. I'll check those out. The list I provided is just a list of the nicer basses I found in my price range(200-300 dollars).

Stretch the budget by $50 and get the CV Squier. Worth it!

I'm wanting to get that active Pbass, actually. I'd look on the used market for sure. You can get a good MIM fender for that price used.

I've spent a considerable amount of time down at the local GC playing every bass that they carry. I had a Schecter Elite Diamond 4 that was always needing the neck adjusted to stay perfectly tuned and not buzz. I wanted to try others brands and setups to figure out what would work best for me.
Like a previous poster, I got a chance to check out the G&L tribute series. I decided to go with the US made G&L L 2000, but I bought one used for $800. I know your budget is in the sub $500 range, but it is hard to find a decent gigging bass for that little unless you buy used. Check Craig's list in your area or hit up all the pawn shops and independent music stores that sell used gear.

It's come down to these two basses.

Epiphone EB3 SG

Ibanez SR300

Again, I play indie pop to lofi indie so I'm looking for a bright, to semi-distorted punchy bass sound.

Input would be great. I really have no idea which bass to go with. They both sound great and the neck dive of the Epiphone is no problem at all. The prices are 300 dollars for the Ibanez and 260 for the Epiphone which I hear is a great bass.

any reason this is in general instruction?

btw, as little as i like ibanez, i would get it over the eb-3. i own a very old gibson eb-0 and have played many eb-3's, and while they do have a cool sound, the ibanez has a sound that's more workable in more situations.
