There are so many people goin on Youtube these days and posting "Lessons" or "Instructional Videos" and honestly the vast majority of these self-proclaimed "teachers" do not know the difference between a Bass and Donkey. It seems to me many of these guys go on to post these vids as more of an ego thing for themselves, rather than to potentially help out younger players or be of any benefit to people new to the instrument.... they do it to stroke their egos!!

THIS GUY is everything that's GOOD about a youtube instructional. I don't know the man, but I just watched this video and I've gotta say in a world of youtube losers..... This guy sticks out as one of the good ones. He's humble, you can tell his only concern is the benefit and learning of anyone who watches the video, the lesson is simple and most of all.... what he's teaching (in this video at least) is actually CORRECT. Hat's off to this guy. Wish there were more like him.

That's by buddy Steve Edgerton. He's a member here named Dr. Funkdamental. Great individual and he grooves real well.

Well let your buddy know that he has some impressive skills and that he put together a great instructional vid, that's way better than most I've seen.

Good video, but just a bit of constructive criticism here. At one point early on in the video his IPod is playing the song and he's trying to explain something, but I felt like I missed something important because of the music and the room reverberation drowning it out. My suggestion would be to have someone else control the iPod, and to explain the concept first, then play the music. Otherwise a well done video.

Yeah his setup isn't ideal, but it's more about being humble and having his heart in the right place.... not feeding his ego....

Thanks OP & Dr. Funkdamental! I wasn't aware of this bassist on Youtube (or here on TalkBass) but I really get a lot out of his videos and his teaching style. Subscribed!

Man Im sooooo humbled right now. Im just glad that a little something I could contribute is helping ppl. Coming up no one wanted to help me or show me ANYTHING. I know that applying scales and stuff was a place alot of ppl struggled as I had. This is motivation for me to keep going and hopefully for someone else to keep/start sharing. Thats what TB and music is all about! Wow...
