Thanks, jeremy, for posting that link. (repsect to the OP)

I was talking about playing my bass the other day at work and a guy I work with that knows I'm a Christian and is a minister at a local church told me his WL needed a bass player.

I told him I'm not really a bass player, I just get tabs and play along with my mp3 (mostly rock no gospel or worship because It's tuff finding tabs for it).

I would like to learn enough to answer that call next time, though.

Apologies to the OP, no hijack intended.

a very key thing in Gospel is being able to play by ear.

No charts, no tabs, just your ear and your bass.

In gospel situations its not unheard of (I had it happen to be while playing P&W at a live recording) that songs you haven't played in over a year will come up. Heck i've even had songs i've NEVER heard before come up that I had to play on spot.

Once you get the theory of turnarounds and such down you're well on your way.

I would think you would be playing with a keyboard or piano. If so the two of you do not want to step on each other's toes. That probably would mean for the bass, less is more, thus you could learn as you play.

Go sit in on the rehoursals, see what you think.

After spending about an hour in the media centre and the forums this is such a nice style of music to play so comfortable and fun.

Psalm 33:3
Sing to Him a new song;
play skillfully on the strings, with loud shouts.

Best excuse to be a musician in my book.

I actually presented the above last week Sunday at my church.
