I'm sorry to make this thread about Lessons

I'm a College Student Freshman. Although I can play bass a bit, I never took any formal lesson nor any lesson from any bass players, and everything I can do was done through watching video (watching other people play and stuff). Therefore, I suck and it's sloppy.

Now, I know there are a lot of lesson videos out there, and I also know that there are people who teach themselves how to play bass, but I do not have the ability to do those kinda things because my brain and fingers suck. Now, I've played violin for 7.5 years, and therefore, I find bass to be easier than starting a wind instrument and stuff like that. But since I'm too stupid, I don't think I can get any better with the instrument unless I learn from the very basics. I can only get better by learning from others through lessons step by step.
But so far, I do not think I have found any instructional website of how to play bass step by step. I do not have any kind of score/tabs and stuff like that since I don't have money and obviously I have no money to take any formal education on bass.
And I know there are those cheap Online (skype) lessons somewhere, but I live in Japan and therefore, I do not think the timezone will let me do stuff like those. And the money I have is mainly from my parents. I have A LOT OF hesitation using it for anything other than Food/Shelter/College, even if it's $5.

Can anyone find me an excellent website that instructs me with good educational formatted video? And ones that are very organized (teaching in the relatively right order)? The ones that would actually tell me what exercise I should practice and how much I should practice each?

By the way, I do have webcam, I also have Amplifier-PCmic cords. I also have recording tools. These are my friend's stuff who let me borrow his bass and stuff, but since he doesn't play at all, it's virtually mine.

Sorry for the big post. But I want to get better at bass. I just want to go from crap to good. I know I sound like ******* for asking such an ideal stuff, but...

There's nothing to beat one-to-to one tuition where a real person looks at what you are doing and sees where you are going wrong and what you are doing right!

It's also invaluable in that you can ask the questions you have, rather than being stuck with what somebody thought you might want to ask...?

The thing is that with video lessons you can't look at yourself objectively, like a decent teacher could!

^ definitely this

and to answer your question, studybass.com is a site I used to use, and I would definitely recommend it.

However, nothing beats a teacher. Even the guy at the site itself will tell you, although the website is a great help, get yourself a good bass instructor as soon as you can.

Another thing......as long as you are on TB, learn to check out the stickies at the top of the forums. Here is one on exercises that you can do forever. Some great input from TB'ers here.

Tru Dat! You may be able to find a fellow student who is more advanced than you to study with, perhaps even work out some sort of barter for the lessons rather than $. Growing up my folks and I never had money for music lessons but we were able to work it out, I used to mow my teachers yard and do other yard work for my lessons.
