Hi Everyone,
I'm off to teach an Improv Clinic at Wooten Woods and Vic's Bass and Nature Camp this afternoon. I'll post my impressions when I return.
It hasn't been 3 months since the Duck River was 25 feet above flood stage, most of the camp was underwater, and Vic and his Theory Weekend Campers had to be evacuated by boat! I'll be interested to see how the repair and rehab of the flood damage is progressing.
Stay tuned..... |

The cabins close to the river are in the process of being rebuilt. I taught a class on Walking Bass, Voice Leading, Soloing, and a "Jazz Intro/Survival Guide" and then stayed around to help Steve with an Upright Bass Intro Class.
It's business as usual with the campers going to rotations, etc. The primary instructors are Steve and Vic and a naturalist staff. There are some heavy hitters coming in from Nashville and other points including The Pontiff (aka Mike Pope), Bob Francescini (baddest sax player in NYC and hubby of Vic's manager Danette) and some other folks-a lot of times these are secret guests. I'll probably pop in and out a few times over this 3 week course (the first one they've done like this). |

I just happen to really like Bob. I jammed with him at the Vandoren Reed Soirre at the Winter NAMM in Anaheim and he really knocked my socks off. Great player-as was Kirk Whalum and the Jam leader (from the Max Weinberg 7, can't recall his name right now).
I've seen Joe Lovano many times with Sco as well as his own band (that was the last time I was able to visit with Dennis Irwin before he got sick and passed away).
That's a blanket statement, that anyone's the baddest in NYC.....
Breathe, it's gonna be OK.... |
