injury advice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi there,
About 4 months ago, the knuckle on my right hand was becoming extremely red and swollen each time i would play. I had surgery to correct it (apparently the tendon neededto be brought back into its "groove" as it would fall off the side everytime I used my fingers) however, now that i am back playing again, the redness, swelling and pain has come back. I don't think the surgeon got it right (it appears to be more like bursitis). If anyone has any advice on technique, such as hand positioning or alignment etc over the body, I would much appreciate it. I'm thinkin its more of a bad technique/over-use thing rather than a structural injury.
Cheers everybody.

I assume you're right handed?

Pick or Fingers?
All knuckes or just one/two fingers? Which?

The important techniques are just about keeping everything smooth, and rounded - no sharp twists or turns.

Are you playing too hard?

It's impossible to really say much without seeing you play.

do a search on the forum for "Dr Kurtz" - his book is a must read.

You should see a doctor again.
In the meantime you can play with a plectrum.
Never heard of this before, so I cannot give you good advise
