| THe most inspirational stuff I've ever had was reading a couple of Daryl Jones interveiws. He talks about the power of the bass, the beauty of locking a groove, the way to practice so that you get to a trance-like state and really disect the nature of the groove. He said he'd practice the bass line to something like The Staple Singers' "I'll Take You There" for like 20 minutes straight.
Try it- play that relatively simple line for 20 minutes with out altering the groove a bit. Learn to focus on all the subtlties that make it musical. Let go of the distractions, the itch to play something else, etc.
