Instructional bass videos?

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey dudes,

I just got Flea's bass dvd. It was fun to hear his philosophy and to see some awesome playing. I got a few tips but it's not a very good instructional tape. Can you reccomend another good one? What style I hear you ask? Well rock, funk and jazz are my faves but I'm interested in learning from all sorts. Has anyone got the Billy Sheehan: Advanced Bass dvd?

Thanks

I've bought many instructional vid's over the years. sometimes only gaining a tiny amount of knowledge for the money spent on some of them. Alexis Sklarevski slap vid seem to be held in high regard by many bass players.

Norm Stockton's Grooving For Heaven series is excellent. John Patitucci's Complete Electric Bass is the bomb. While not a DVD, Patrick Pfeiffer's book/CD Bass Guitar for Dummies is excellent as well (don't let the title fool you!)

^^^ If you go there and type the word "instructional" and search thread titles only you'll have a veritable cornucopia of results.

Dave LaRue video was one of the best, I worshipped that for many, many months...

also check out anything by Beaver Felton... He is a true master instructor and had ALOT of audio/video for any style at any level.

Michael manring was great for listening to him talk ALOT and he had great exercises using permutations, which completely dominates my practicing world now.

Billy Sheehan has very fun videos... his 2 newest ones are really good, I was suprised.. his newest beginner video is a great tool for any new bassists.

I have LOTS of instructional videos , bass, drum, and guitar.

depending on your level, the John Petrucci guitar video was really helpful to me as a bassist.. he had wonderful exercises and explained things real well..

Thanks dudes. I watched Ed Friedland's 'Slap Bass' dvd today. It's pretty good though more beginner level. Has anyone seen the Bill Dickens tape?

I agree. Neat to watch but of little instructional value IME.

I have some videos up on you-tube that may help you if you're starting out.

Of course, they're not as professional as I'd like to be, but they seem to be helping people

I'm in the process of putting them all up on my blog, which is at:

http://www.Dmanlamius.com

There are also written lessons there as well.

Good luck!
