Interesting Jazz/Funk/Soul/Reggae lines

I'm planning on starting a drum and bass project with my friend, with little or no guitar. So, I'm looking for bass lines, bassists, bands, etc to draw influence from. Some of the guys who have the most influence over my style are Duff McKagan, James Jamerson, and Victor Damianti/Gabe Nelson. So, I do a lot of pentatonic noodling, and focus more on placement of notes and feel than anything else. I try to focus on soul, funk (No slapping!), and r&b. I'm not terribly well versed in theory, so I hope that makes sense to the better informed than I. So, back to my question: Who are some guys who play in this same vain, as these guys, who play interesting lead bass lines, and songs, bands, albums, etc, that I should try to learn from. Go easy on me guys, I'm a white boy.
