hey all,
i'm taking the international institute of bass 12 week course "Contemporary Concepts For Bass Guitar & Acoustic Bass". it's pretty decent so far and certainly worth the price (~$25). the info is pretty similar to other books but the fixed week by week schedule will help keep me on track.
so, is anyone else out there taking it? anyone taken it before? there is an online chat every monday for Q & A but it's a bad time for me and i'd like to chat with others about the class.

Just by looking at the material of the first lesson I can tell that at least I'll be getting a pletora of information, and theory explanations. It's too early to tell, but the course looks promising and for just 25 bucks it's good enough

The Bach Cello Suite No1 transcript is nice, I've put it into standard tuning rather than Cello, just for the trickiness of the fingers in standard tuning, all good stuff. |

| | Registered User | | | | | hey all,
i'm the OP and the course is done so here goes.
i'm an intermediate player so i knew many of the concepts introduced in the class but hadn't really internalized them as second nature. so having just a week between lessons means you really have to spend a solid 30min a day to really get them. in fact, i'd give the lessons 30min of practice then applying these lessons to jazz standards for another 30min!
very roughly, the first half of the entire class is theory and basics then the second half is applying all these concepts to stadards and learning from classic transcriptions.
overall, it was definitely worth the price, you can find most of the info for free on the net nowadays but having the ability to chat directly with the teacher is priceleess and having a strict once a week schedule is very beneficial. i'll probably continue to work on the material for another couple months then take the more advanced class.
cheers y'all
