A simple chord inversion would be to put the third or fifth on the bottom.
Example Cmaj built E G C would be 1st inversion. G C E would be 2nd.
My advice would be to study your scales and modes. Then see how they fit with chords.
Practice these until your hands can't take any more. This will become ingrained in you and give you a supply of knowlege to pull from as you play. You can't play what you don't know.
