Jammed Finger

Sign in to disble this ad
About two weeks ago I jammed my middle finger on my fretting hand pretty bad. For the next few days playing was impossible. To this day the finger is still a bit weak and sore. When I try and play I feel like I have no strength in my entire hand and all fretting is difficult.

My question is: should I continue to rest my hand or is returning to practicing the best solution to getting back into playing?

Thanks.

Don't rest a jammed finger. You have to exercise it or it will stay swollen longer. Even if you're not playing bass, you should be flexing your finger inwards until it hurts, then let off a little. Rinse and repeat

I never rest my jammed fingers, or any sprain for that matter. The best way, I find, to get through these things is to continue doing things as normal. Obviously with a sprained ankle you can't walk as well, but healing is partly mental, if you can treat yourself like theres nothing wrong, you will heal faster. A jammed finger will definitely be tough to play with, but I'd do it anyway, work through it, its therapeutic.
