JPJ on Moby Dick

I'm having a hard time figuring out whether JPJ tuned his bass to drop D on this song. I'm sure he plays the first riff an octave higher, and not with the E string dropped to D, but the fill before the last riff sound like D F F# F# G G A. Sounds like a rather uneconomic use of drop D.

Or is the last fill E F F# F# G G A ?

Any info would be much appreciated.

EDIT: Sounds more like E F# G G G# G# A now to me... Driving me nuts

I'm pretty sure he didn't tune down, to me it's always sounded like the high D. When I play it, I use my 5 string, so I obviously use the low D, but I don't think JPJ dropped D.
