Learning Bass Online

I thought it might be useful to other students starting out on the bass journey if I were to share my experiences with online bass tutoring sites.

Obviously, I have not seen them all but these are the ones I have used and returned to time and time again.

For a real good kick to get going:

This is set out in a progressive, structured and organised way and has the beginner bassist firmly in its sights. Provides an excellent foundation for the aspiring bassist. Does a good job of teaching theory with playing. A fine place to start.

Great site by an inspirational player. A little disorganised meaning you have to hunt around for content. Great video back up helping with technique. The presenters natural cool and friendly approach makes it a pleasure to use. Many other bass tutors post lessons on this site so this is an excellent one stop shop if you don’t mind wading through it all.

A different approach to learning bass by concentrating on learning songs rather than theory. Patient and thorough presentation by video but sometimes a little dreary . Great if you want to learn bass lines to songs real quick and where to put your fingers without bothering with the whys and wherefores.

This is just an account of the ones I found - and found useful.

I am sure there are many many other sites and I hope members will contribute and add their experiences of online bassing.

BTW, I freely acknowledge that there is no subsitute for a good, real life, human, all speaking, all looking, all knowledgeable bass teacher.

The clips are a decent length, not the one or two minute "lessons" you often get on You Tube.

Only problem is whenever I watch the clips, there is constant stop/starting due to buffering problems. Could just be my computer though.

I notice you can alter the bitrate for buffering the vids which may help you.
