Learning Material

Hello,

I've been playing bass since Feb 2009. I have not taken any formal lessons but I have learned my techniques by watching others on YouTube. I have taught myself how to read tabs. This is how I have learned to play songs, by looking at tabs and listening to the rythm of the song.

I want to learn how to read music but cannot affford to pay for lessons. Can anyone recommend any books or DVDs that are excellent for those who want to be self taught?

Thanks guys. By the way check me out on YouTube, my username is joserP2009. All comments and critique are welcome.

I'd recommend getting the complete Hal Leonard Bass Method book by Ed Friedland (Volumes 1,2,3.). There is a thread about here on the "General Instruction" forum.

Massive big-up to Ed Friedland's bass method

Books:

How to read Music (Fundamentals of Music Notation) by Roger Evens

Music theory for Ev'ryone by Don Comanda-If you could find it used or similar.

HOW TO PRACTICE SCALES

If you can't find any decent affordable music teacher right now (don't give up) & if you only go with the above ask questions here on TB.

All in all it should not cost you more than $25.00

Avoid TAB!

Jam with other musicians. Ones who are better than you. Preferably patient ones.
