Like many other people here would do, I'd suggest Bach's Cello Suites. Simple enough.

learn treble and bass clef, and just google the names of any classical piece you want online and you'll most likely find a free score.

Are you sure you're looking at BWV 1007-1012? Those are the catalog numbers for the Cello Suites. Everything's in the bass clef. All the six suites are compiled into one file at IMSLP.

Nice way of looking at it But the suites are typically supposed to be in the bass clef.

I was thinking the same thing.

Get a bass guitar or double bass method and start from there. The fasttrack method for bass guitar is not the most interesting to play, but you learn the notes (and some basic theory) and the book is cheap.

I started with those. Are they too easy? The one thing that could be is that there's not enough rhythm practice.

Please provide some suggestions regarding what you think.

Also, how 'bout the reading exercises here: http://www.emusictheory.com/practice.html.

I absolutely love some of those. The rhythm based ones and note name exercises are quite useful, IMO, definitely so for a beginner.

champ, if it were me, i'd be looking for simpler tunes to read as a beginner. you must have been good at it from the start to read bach starting out. i was thinking more like simpler tunes like a walking blues line, or some standards maybe.
