Does any one know what key the song, "House of the Rising Sun" is done in?

It has such a dramatic sound. I'm trying to figure out what makes that song and other songs such as, " Little Red Riding Hood", "We Gotta Get outta this place" and "Please Don't let me Be Misunderstood, have that sound. Are the chords minor? Is it the key its written in?

Well it starts out on Am and ends on Am chord so it's probably Am chord ?

All the root notes are in A minor scale.

I III IV VI V7 I V7
Chord progression.

It's A minor and uses the harmonic (F and G#)...powerful mode.

A minor is I, II, Flat III, IV, V, flat VII, domanant or flat VII. Right?

OR A, B, C, D, E, F, G, A. Right? This is the Key and all of the notes of the chords are built on this?

Deekay, what do you mean by harmonic f and G#?

He means that it is based on the harmonic minor scale, which contains an F natural and a G sharp:

Here's a general rule of thumb.... if the song sounds resolved when it ends, the last chord is typically the key.

Heh, all pugs are nice... especially my two.

Nice Eddie!

Okay, here's a stupid question to bring this back on topic. What does it mean when one says the song sounds resolved?

I'd say it sounds complete and "right" in the end, even if the notes inbetween may say otherwise... but don't quote me.
