Is this a little too much?

My guitarist has a nice chord developement that he plays for an intro of a song, and I play roots of those...very sparce, nothing complicated.
He has a lead line come in overdubbed, and to reproduce this live, I was wondering if maybe I should continue playing the roots while he comes in with that or maybe he keeps on playing the chords, and I tap the roots and the lead?
I allready sing co-lead (our stuff is like art rock duets alot, think the Beatles or System of a Down.)
I also write much (about 90%) of the music (including guitar) and about 95% of the lyrics?
He's basically making the music for a song I wrote (excluding the bass.) and making the vocal melodies...this is his first song he's had such a role on. (He's been playing guitar over twice as long as I have on Bass, he is great technically, but is a little lazy.)
Would I be stepping on his toes alittle? |
