You need to have more respect for teachers. They earn every penny they can get.

Agreed, I'm afraid to say you're not likely going to find a good teacher with small to non-existent fees. If you don't have the funds to pay a teacher your best bet would probably be to find a good book (I like The Complete Electric Bass Player by Chuck Rainey), study it, and then play along with records and then with other people.

Never said they didn't deserve every penny.

Yeah I got bass for dummies its got a lot of good info. I could care less for actual lessons but more of someone to jam with and be able to point out major mistakes and answer simple questions instead of using forums...

Most teachers won't take beginners under their wing. I pay $90 a week for lessons, that's just what their time is worth to me.

So you're implying that teaching a broke 25 year old for free would be better then teaching a younger kid who can pay?

Well to be quite honest, I did mention low fees. Which Ive been quoted things like 100+ per hour. So low fees to me are lower than that. So it would be the difference between someone who is mature and willing to stick with it rather than a younger kid who either is being pushed by his parents to learn and will not actually care whether or not he retains the information or will flake out sooner or later not wanting to put in the effort.

At any rate, if you came to this thread just to try to put words in my mouth get a life. If your not in the Seattle area, and wanting to teach bass to me then you should stop wasting your time trolling.

so your saying even if the fees were 50$ a week you would still pay 90$? Because that's what there time is worth?

ALSO I never said I was broke, but I want the best deal I can get of course. Just like purchasing a bass, if the price is a really good deal your not going to offer more than what they are asking right? Makes sense to me to find a good deal on not only teachers but equipment when possible. I also understand getting a good rate on a teacher might imply the teachers actual teaching abilities might not be as substantial as others with higher prices. But maybe they are new to teaching so they want to give cheaper lessons until they get the hang of it...

I was just reading what you wrote and asked a question on part of it...

Yes but when shopping for the best deal on a bass the word "free" is usually never involved in the conversation.

Just let the topic die. 25 and not wanting to pay for things you want? Not worth the time to respond.

"Someone to jam with" isn't a teacher, btw, so just go jam with people.

This is one of my first threads as well, so seeing as the people who have been posting are more trying to put the thread creator down of some sorts does not make me want to stick around this site much longer. Have fun guys peace out.

In case you're still around you might want to check out this guy.

Intro Page - E7BASS

I believe he does lessons out of Bellevue Guitars off Northup Way. Not to far from Seattle and right off 520. Incredible player as well as a great teacher. His rates are very reasonable.

I don't know IF she's taking students at this time (though I'm inclined to imagine she might take the right dedicated soul under her wing) - hunt down LizzyD on this site. She's schooled and quite the player. I hope I don't get in trouble for this...

There are a lot of guys on here who are real fast to hurl insults and put down others, but there are also a lot of great folks, with great insight. Stick around and ignore the idiots!

OP, I teach in Bellevue, I can do cheap but not free if you come to me. Otherwise get books and videos. There's also a few guys on here that post instructional video's on youtube.

I'm up in Vancouver. You make the effort to come up here I'll give you one free lesson and we'll see how it goes from there.
