Looking for a good teacher in Massachusetts

I live in Taunton if you live around here and know where that is but it can be around Taunton/Raynham and the surrounding areas as long as it isn't too far. Mainly I want a teacher who will teach me theory and how it relates to music. Learning songs is great and all but I can do that on my own and have so I have the basics down pretty tight.

If you want to learn theory, then don't limit yourself to just bass teachers. A good piano player could teach you a great deal. Look around Providence too since that's not too far from Taunton.

Well I'd prefer a bass teacher as I'm a beginner and its easier to apply what they show me to my instrument if its the same instrument haha. I still want to learn songs in lessons and play in lessons also I guess I stated that wrong what I meant was if I learn a song I want to be told why such and such is played, what scale its in and stuff. I want to understand music not just play it.

There are lots of ex and current Berklee students and teachers in Massachusetts.

Thanks man I knew that though. Was kinda hoping someone would say "I learn from ____ he's great go check him out" but I guess I'll just see what I can find.

I lived in the Boston area a long time ago. I just went to one of the local music shops and decided to take some lessons. I never heard of the guy teaching but was a great guitar teacher (and Berklee dropout.)

No matter where you are finding a good teacher hard. Even recommendation don't always help because a teachers style and appoach might be good for one person and not for you.

What I do is try to schedule a time to talk to the teacher. See if we have some common musical likes and dislikes. Give them a general idea of what I'm looking to learn and see if they sound like they have been there and done that. Then up front say I would like to take a couple lessons to see how it goes. So I don't commit to something if I don't like how its going once we start.
