| I lived in the Boston area a long time ago. I just went to one of the local music shops and decided to take some lessons. I never heard of the guy teaching but was a great guitar teacher (and Berklee dropout.)
No matter where you are finding a good teacher hard. Even recommendation don't always help because a teachers style and appoach might be good for one person and not for you.
What I do is try to schedule a time to talk to the teacher. See if we have some common musical likes and dislikes. Give them a general idea of what I'm looking to learn and see if they sound like they have been there and done that. Then up front say I would like to take a couple lessons to see how it goes. So I don't commit to something if I don't like how its going once we start.
