i've always been told not to transcribe bass solos, but if you're looking for that stuff i'd go to ron carter, christian mcbride, paul chambers, or ray brown

Find a copy of Steve Swallow "Real Book" or "Deconstructed". Some of that should appeal to you. I particularly like the intro to "Let's Eat" (to the changes of Softly As In A Morning Sunrise) and his bassline for Lady Waders on Three Guys (with Lee Konitz & Paul Motien)

BTW, the jacket of Real Book has lead sheets for the tunes.

+1 for Ray Brown. My first transcription was "Blues for Basie" waaaay back in 1974-of course now it's in Todd Coolman's "The Bass Tradition" (Jamey Aebersold).
I would recommend a melodic horn player like Chet Baker as well. Mark Egan was a former trumpet player who was really influenced by Chet's melodic style in his bass lines and solos.

Ray Brown on "Basie Jam." The tune "Hanging Out", particularly. It is a long, slow-tempo altered blues and Ray plays some very melodic lines throughout. Never repeats a chorus.

This isn't a bass solo but I'd suggest the piano solo or excerpts thereof from the Oscar Peterson Trio version of "Girl from Ipanema". It's got the one thing I look for most in any solo in that if you took just the solo alone, it outlines the changes perfectly while being melodic and interesting.
