Looking for practice material for eighth/sixteenth figures

Sign in to disble this ad
Sight reading myself crossed eyed for the next few weeks in the final stages of preparation for my Carnival Cruise audition.

My biggest weakness at the moment is unusual eighth/sixteenth figures; tons of ties, syncopation, dots, and everything else imaginable in a single measure.

Does anyone have teaching material designed specifically for this, and if so, can you put it in a digital form that could be sent and downloaded?

If so p.m. me and we'll figure something out. Much appreciated!

some of the zappa stuff on my site (link below) is fairly intricate & hard to read - might be good practice

If you're struggling with the rhythmic side, get LOUIS BELLSON'S 4:4 TIME - it consists of a gazillion measures of various rhythmic combinations -including all the variations you mentioned - and you can contentrate on playing through and counting the rhythm because all the rhythms have the same pitch (D i think, if memory serves....).

I got the name wrong - here's a link at amazon - as you can see it's pretty cheap, less than 10 dollars.

David Chesky has an excellent book called "Advanced Jazz/Rock Rhythms for All Bass Clef Instruments", published by Charles Colin circa 1979. Not sure if it's still in print...
