looking for a program that will generate random notes for practice

Sign in to disble this ad
Im at the point where im learning the names of all the notes on the neck. To practice so far ive been having my girlfriend call out random notes on a certain string and I find them; however, this is limiting because I have to work around her time schedule

So what im looking for is a program that will generate random notes (A,A#,B,C,C#, etc) at a preset interval.

I don't read notation, so preferably something that just says the note.

Anyone have suggestions?

thanks.

Sounds like a perfect time to learn to read.
It's really fairly simple.

yeah, youre probably right. However im learning the names on the neck to be able to jam easier with fellow musicians. I really have no use to learning standard notation

Do a search for flashcard generators. You should be able to find one that suits your needs.

Even if you never use it, it can only make you a better player.

Well it really is simple to learn just basic reading. Even if you took it upon yourself to learn a few notes a week and then break it down to doing various rhythmical values per week. It doesn't have to consume your routine to be effective.

I seem to remember a bass neck game....you could play it in many ways.

Like it would pinpoint a note on the neck, and you have to click what it is.

or, it gives you a note and you have to find it on the neck.

It was pretty fun, and timed for scores.

I don't know what it was called...but gives you something to google.

try "bass guitar game" "bass neck drill"

stuff like that, you'll eventually find it.

At some point you will need to read music whether you want to or not. It's better to just get that out of the way.

This made me think of "Band in a Box."

Anyone remember that?

I was about to suggest that, it has some auto soloing capabilities and although cheesy, it's great for practicing to backing tracks.
