Looking for some great learning materials for some woodshedding.

I'm looking for some very good and intuitive learning materials for a novice to intermediate bassist to really get to know and understand music/chord/fret board theory for the bass; as well as material for learning to play by ear and jam with others.

I come from years of solo finger style guitar playing; so I can learn how to play a song fairly easily. But I've been enjoying my bass so much, that I would like to really dive in and get to know this instrument inside and out; and most importantly learn how to play in a small band/jam setting (much more improvisational and extemporaneous than I have ever had to do playing solo finger style guitar).

I’m looking for theory/exercise books & CDs, and/or DVDs. Also some suggestions for play along (background) CDs/tracks to play along with for practice.

The way things are looking, I should be able to practice about 6-8 hours a day from January to April or May; and I would really like to make the most of this time by getting the material ready now.
