To make it simple, major tends to sound happy, and minor usually sounds sad.

Also, next time post a question like this in the General Instruction section.

A Major scale has a Major third - (4 "1/2 steps" [or semi-tone] up from the root)
A minor scale has a flat (minor) 3rd - (3 "1/2 steps" up from the root)

Have to assume you know a major scale and the degrees it contains.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7

You know there are multiple minor scales, but the one most learn first is the Natural Minor. It's degrees compared to a major scale are...

1, 2, b3, 4, 5, b6, b7

Then you get to grab your theory book and start studying the Relationship between the Major scale and the natural minor scale. Learn that inside out before moving on it is the foundation to understand modes and other scales.

obviously, major summons happy puppies and bunnies... while minor summons demons and ghouls. beware.
