Memorizing long passages, need advice

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey all,
I've never really been good at memorizing long passages in songs or solos and wanted to know what advice you guys had on doing this, namely in memorizing the solo section from war pigs. Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

take it a few bars at a time (otherwise you will end up knowing the first 4 bars cold and nothing after that), play it slow first then speed it up.

It helps if you have a way to loop portions of the CD and slow it down.

Generally, memorization is easier if you split the information in autonomous pieces, learn each of them and then learn their sequence. So, divide the song or solo into sections, so that each one has a reasonable length or form that you can memorize, practice each seperately. When you know all parts well, then start learning their sequence by trying to play the whole song or larger portions of the song.
