Metronome with random click/dropout

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey guys, I did a quick search and couldn't find a thread addressing this, so apologies if I'm just asking what someone else has already asked.

I am wondering if anyone can direct me towards some kind of free online metronome device, but one that has clicks on a random beat, or that randomly leaves out beats?

I think this would be a very valuable addition to my practice routine.

Cheers! groooooovey...

Although I must apologize for my lack of aid here, I know that Victor Wooten is very interested in something similar- he's trying to get a drum machine made that randomly speeds up and slows down, like a real drummer.

Bah! We give them a job and they can't even do that right!

I'm interested in this too. The closest I've got was creating a drum track that dropped the beat here and there or for a measure or two. Something that did this randomly would be great!

I'll bet Jeff Berlin would get a kick out of this idea.

How about any suggestions for a physical metronome that drops off on certain beats? Any suggestions?

Buy an old one. My crappy old piano metronome sticks then lets go. Other times it just slows down the tempo. I tried fixing the mechanism with graphite, but the metal spindle is grinding into the wood. I might be convinced to part with it.

that link is pretty cool fishsticks, although not quite what I had in mind. Although, the fact that you can adjust the time signature and the emphasis makes it very valuable anyway so thanks!
But if anyone knows of one that deliberately drops out random beats that would be great!

Not a metronome, but

I dig Hydrogen for practice. I do not use it to track drums but I use it with my students and you can build exercises at the drop of a hat. www.hydrogen-music.org

I'm still trying to find a simple metronome that doesn't drag.

Weird Metronome can do that. The best free metronome available IMO.

+1 Weird Metronome.

Not a metronome, but the Roland Rhythm Coach is a digital "snare" that does that type of exercise and more. The RMP1 is available for around $30 on eBay.

I was searching for this kind of metronome too. Time Guru for the iPhone can randomly drop out. Or drop out in patterns. Pretty cool tool.
