modern ska

I play in a ska band but have a horrible time comming up with new stuff, playing the root and playing the same basic 1-3-5 arpegion of the chord gets boring.any help on this?
we play mas modern ska, i.e. street light manifest,catch 22,lass than jake etc etc

+learn scales. then you can just improv and stuff.

+play notes and octave higher or lower, depending on the note.

um yeah. i play a lot of ska too.
check out five iron frenzy. they rock.

Tired of playing I-III-V? Stop! That's all you have to do. Try other ideas like I-VII-VI-V, I-VI-V-III, I-II-III-V, anything to break it up. And try just pounding the root note now and then. And listen to "Israelites" and "King Of Ska" by Desmond Dekker. They're like the first two big ska songs from the 60's. Whoever played bass on those songs was really original, and they're 40 years old. Blows away most of those LA punk ska bassists

when it comes to christain ska i stick to the insyderz,
