As musicians we don't want to limit or put a cap on our soloing options. But as the old cliche goes if your where on a desert island and you can only have one approach/method to solo with, which one would be the best for you in the abilty to learn them, easy to technically do,and very mucical ?
1. Modes: i.e Dorian, Phyrigian etc.
2. Pentatonics: i.e Major, Minor
3. Chord tones & passing tones: i.e play the 4 notes in a C7 plus passing tones ( basically any note chromatic or other wise). |

Aeolean mode -- for the island breezes.
Pentatonics for that funky Caribbean Island groove, Mon.
Passing tones to hail any boats that might drift nearby. |

It's all the same info, it's all the same thing. It's like asking, which do you prefer, inhaling or exhaling? Or, which would you choose, arteries or veins?

Yes, right up there with: Define the universe. Give 3 examples.
What chord would Melville choose?
Never stopped anyone from asking. OR getting a meaningless answer.
There must at least be a decent pun in there someplace. No?
"Passing tones for passing boats". That's close.

He really could wail, afterall. |
