I've been taking lessons for about 2 1/2 months now and I feel I've made progress but I'm curious what you all think. My instructor has me practicing scales and 12 bar blues from the book he teaches out of. I also take him tabs and he checks/fixes them and we play through the songs together on occasion. I have a few songs down (some Marilyn Manson, AC/DC, Pink Floyd) and have parts of others down (time of the season, super freak-the run in the chorus throws me for some reason). We first practiced scales/patterns then he switched it up to learn a few songs so I wouldn't get "paralysis from analysis" as he calls it and now we're getting some songs down and getting back into theory and more blues patters and other scales. To me, the biggest challenge is combining my finger speed with the pressure needed to get a clean note. I can move fast, but the notes aren't clear or I can move slow and get strong notes, but getting the combo of speed/strength is a challenge. I feel like I've made a lot of progress, but just curious if you all feel this is normal and like everything else, practice makes perfect, or at least makes you better. |
