| | | | Most frequently played blues songs? Hi Im a bass newbie,
There are some open blues jams by where I ..... I want to learn some blues tunes that are often played at blues jams etc.
I am looking for songs that have patterns, turnarounds, walks ups that can be used a lot in other songs....as opposed to bass lines that are very particular to just one song. Follow me?
Thank you!
Seb

I hear those at most of the open mics.

Seb | I'll also say that if you learn a few blues scales, most good blues guitar players will know just what to do. Blues can be improved too.

The best thing you can do is not waist time learning songs. You never know what is going to be called out.
Learn the patterns and rhythms in every key.
For example, the leader will call out, Bla-Bla song, slow blues in A with a quick change
or, Chicago shuffle in A flat

Go to the actual jams and take some notes on your phone, or whatever, of the songs, grooves, styles, tempos, and who the players are who are calling the tunes.
There are also conventions such as starting from the V, the quick IV, the #IV, the II V turnaround. These can be called out on the fly or just before counting off the tune.
Do a little homework before you go back with your bass. It will be time well spent, and people always appreciate a competent/prepared bass player even if you're new.
Check Stumbo's blues links and threads for lots of helpful info. |
