Can anyone please give me any tips on how to create a decent motown bass line as i need to this for a music course?

I dunno... Just listen to guys like Jr Walker or Otis Redding and go from there.

Better yet, listen to lots of Jamerson, it's hard not to cause he is Motown

Indeed James Jamerson is the sound of Mowtown Bass. Try a you tube search for " James Jamerson isolated bass" But that said he's also pretty dam hard to emulate. For a more stripped down but equally solid and soulful approach you might want to check out Duck Dunn's work on the old Staxx records/Booker T & The MGs. I belive there is also a book out there called "What Duck Dunn"

Hit the nail right on the head, you did. I was surprised that Jamerson was not the in the first response.
