I dont really know any proper name for this but my neck was "closed" when i woke up this morning and i cant do much, it hurts and i'm not able to play bass so i thought i could learn some more theory.
I know some basics:
-Scales and modes and over what chord the fit.
-Chords, minor and major, 6ths,7ths, 5ths and how they are built up.
-And a little bit of reading.
I would like to learn chord proggressions, like i have heard about IV, V, VI, VII, what is this? just 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th chords?
I have heard people tlak about "after VII chord then usually a hmmmhmmmm chord comes"
What some common chord proggressions?
I know steve harris usually plays whole tones like, D to C to bB to C...
what other theory should i learn?
please post some websites where i can easily print out theory that i can read whie resting... |

I being the first chord, IV being the fourth. You will see them written in lower case letters often as well, that indicates a minor chord (ii or vi for example).

It sounds like you've got all the basics you need. It's like that saying - "It's not what you've got, but how you use it".
Also, If anyone has got a problem with it - email me. You know who you are | I was just practicing all the triads and 7th chords in of C Major in ascending and descending order today. While the ascending part was mostly easy, the descending part caught me a few times.
Kind of odd I see your charts after reacquainting myself with the basics in today's practice. I see it as a sign.
Now to practice ascending & descending triads & 7th chords for every scale/mode over the next few weeks. Should burn the scales into my brain and solidify my remebance of the fretboard at the same time.
Once I have this down I'll start alternating the chord tones (1-5-3-7 instead of 1-3-5-7 or 7-5-3-1 for example). I'm hoping this will get all the chord stuff under my nails and get some new sounds in my head. |
