Musical solo bass pieces
 

I'm looking for solo pieces for electric bass. What I mean by "musical" is that it doesn't necessarily have to be technical.

To give an idea of what I'm talking about: I'm currently working on Back Doors Catcote Rag (I have stumbled into this transcription). In the past I've also done Level 42s Dune Tune (link for the lazy). I'm also a bit inspired by this album, which seems to be really unknown. Here's another vocals & bass duet with a bass player which you talkbassers probably know.

What would you recommend learning? Give me anything with lots of melodies and harmonies (maybe like Portrait of Tracy, or Michael Manrings Selene but actually playable on a regular 4-string :ninja: ) more technical (Stu Hamms Country Music or just anything Stu Hamm comes to mind) or actual song (eg the intro to You've Ruined Me). I think I've given enough examples, hit me with what you've got!

Well Portrait Of Tracy isn't that hard to play but yeah Manring's fretless works is really hard and almost impossible if you don't have the Hyperbass.

as for solo pieces ... maybe looking out classical music, there is a lot of solo piece adapted for DB ... I saw a guy on youtube who play classical piano music on a 7 strings bass.

So BassGK is a good idea, Jeff Schmidt too, Zander Zon, Alain Caron ... and if you want to take a groove and transform it into a solo you can check ou Victor Wooten.

I would also start listening to vocal, or solo music or solo during a song and draw inspiration from it because it isn't with bass player that you will find the most satisfying melody ... bass player only think about groove and repeating themselves ad infinitum

To me, Victor Wooten's "More Love" is one of the most beautiful pieces ever created for solo bass guitar.
