ok here is a video of blink 182's mark hoppus playing a bass solo at the beginning of their song "carousel"

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...carousel&hl=en
(please excuse the bad language at the biginning of the video)

After playing the beginning solo, he moves to playing two string chords. It appears that he is using not just the fingers that he needs to make the chords, but he is also using other fingers to mute it i guess.

i have been trying to learn how to do this for some time now, does anyone have any advice on how to mute the other strings without making it sound like crap?

I think it just looks like hes using those fingers, hes not playing on the E or A string so theres no need to mute them anyway.

even if he is muting them, it's not necessary... atomicant is right; the whole intro is on D and G

Wow, I loved how "tight" they were.

P.S.: try using the thumb of your fretting hand to mute the strings that aren't supposed to ring when you're strumming chords or double stops.

Hi. It looks like he's just resting his middle and third fingers on the E and A so that he can strum all four strings while only sounding the top two.. You may find it easier (though not as punky ) to make smaller motions with your picking hand so that you just hit the D and G.

Cheers,
Alun

Yeah, disgusting. No, i'm looking for a more "secret" sound, as my teacher put it - i just wanna know what rig/bass can give you a sound like that. It sounds a lot like robert trujillo's sound
