Comparing patterns - don't have time to get into this right now, however, yes, those patterns do look a little different than what I'm used to seeing. Doing this from memory - pattern 4 looks like the major scale pattern I'm used to seeing. And then if you hook pattern 4 to pattern 5 they start to flow together - pattern 5 hooks up with pattern 1, etc.

It's good stuff, you just have to get the patterns into an order you recognize.

Your question about 5 patterns or 7 patterns. Using the patterns to go up the neck - two of the patterns are so much like 2 other patterns people decided years ago to just use five of the seven. There are 7 because we have 7 modes, I'm not sure, from memory, what two mode patterns get left out.
