Hey people,
Got my first gig coming up, ive sound engineered for this band for years on end and the bassist is in need of replacing for one gig so ive stepped in, ive no doubt i can learn their songs as theyre fairly simple, just wondering if people have any tips for the actual gig

Keep it simple and solid, lock in with the drummer and everyone will be smilin'. Might be a little nervous, but soon as the first song starts that goes away. Just do it and have fun.

I see a yellow light with that statement. Be prepared for things to sound very different from your new seat, and if possible forget you were ever the sound engineer. You may drive yourself crazy simply because you're so used to coming at this from a different angle.

Having been the sound guy I'm sure you're aware of all that COULD go wrong, so there's not need to prep you on that.

I'd say just know the songs inside out and trust that if they have faith enough in you to do the gig, it more than likely means you ARE capable. And by knowing the songs inside out I mean, once you can play them through without a single mistake, play them like 20X more each on your own for insurance. Have fun.

Move around on stage, I'm not saying act like a mental patient but move a little, I hate watching band that just stand in one place.

Learn your songs. Good Luck.

no offence, but somehow some thing will go wrong - don't let it throw you, and just playing.

Hi,

I like to be near the hi-hat... I think it also helps to make sure your amp is pointed equally between yourself And the drummer.

Good luck!

gr8 advice so far! exactly the stuff i wanted to hear, yeah itll be weird hearin the sound from their perspective especially as the gig (9 bands) is not i cudda engineered anyway, just hope the sound guy dont balls this one they lost a battle of the bands purely on the sound quality before and it was the engineers fault! who ever heard of lead guitar being quieter than the Damn Rhythm grrr idiot even on the solos!
