need help with chord choice

Ive been working on a bolero influenced song .it is in they key of E and walks chromaticaly from e 13 to d13 and back for 8 measures then down to g9 c7 to f#basstone resoving back to the g9 then goes into the chorus bmin7 a#7 a7 g#min7 c#min7 f#min7 b7 resovng to the E .I am completely self taught been plaing for 15 years now and this sound correct to my ear ,i guess my question is does this "theoretically" work ?

anything works as long as it sounds good. i could explain it all, but why..

if you think about a tune like coltrane's giants steps, it makes no sense whatsoever, right out off the bat it goes from a B7 to a D7 chord, so B7 has a major third and the next chord is the minor third, doesn't make much sense, sounds amazing.

Giant Steps makes more sence if you analyze it, but just looking at it, it can be confusing

how do you play E13 or D13 on bass o_O? or do you tap it?

omit a few tones on bass unless im playing a six .I wrote the song on acousstic guitar ,its got a really cool Gilberto Gil feel to it .I am trying to get a good recording of it il post it hear when i get it done
