Need help to write some basslines

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi
I just started play and learn bass couple months ago with no teacher.
I just use one books to practice and the rest of it just play along with some songs.
Couple of weeks ago, I made a duo with a guitarist playing original songs which influenced by Sigur Ros, Air, Nick Drake etc.
The first time we jam my basslines was absolutely simple, i just follow the chords and play couples of lines influenced by some of the songs from Air.
Now he wants to record his songs with me. I dont have any idea of writing a decent bassline and without drummer it is harder to write.
Do you guys have any suggestions? like what scales is good with that kind of music? Do I need to buy a book and learn?
I really dont want to disappoint him because I think his songs is really great.

Thank you and sorry about my english

Try these websites for very good, free tutorials : www.Activebass.com www.studybass.com

Also, these patterns are universal on a bass guitar. The pattern will fit every chord

MAJOR pattern, in this case, "A" major:

root 3rd 5th 6th octave root
----------------------
--------------4---7---
------4--7------------
-5--------------------

Here's a MINOR pattern in D Minor

root 3rd 5th 7th octave root
-------------5---7--
--------7-----------
-5--8---------------
--------------------

learn these patterns.

Should get a teacher. Sound's cliche, but they'll be able to help you understand why a bassline works for a specific song. You can use that knowledge to come up with your own.
