Need Instructional DVD Recommendation

Sign in to disble this ad
I've browsed through amazon and bassbooks.com looking for an instructional DVD, and I don't know what to get.
Here's what I want:

1. Somewhat recognizable player, or at least widely respected in the music higher education field.

2. Focus on playing technique - efficiency of movement of the hands, etc. Improving dexterity, etc.

I'm more of a Rock and Metal guy, but I also take after many different styles/players: Primus, Cachao, Jaco, Cliff Burton, Bernard Edwards (of Chic), etc.

I don't do a lot of slapping, and I'm not too interested in tapping. I use mostly my fingers for plucking in various manners: guitar-style fingerpicking, regular 3 finger speed plucking, and a combination of thumb plucks with finger plucks technique.

Any suggestions?

+1 to what fearceol said above:

What you need, my friend, is indeed Todd Johnson's "Technique Builders" DVD and book.

Todd does neither the slapping nor the tapping thing, but does do the two-finger thing + floating thumb.

This DVD definitely meets the requirements of both 1. and 2. listed in your initial post above... (and Todd has his own forum here on TalkBass under "Ask a Pro", so check it out.)

Easily the best two-finger technique video/DVD available, IMNSHO!!
