Need to learn 10 songs

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm still in the woodshed, and I've been practicing a lot, but I've been concentrating on my sight reading skills ( I always use a metranome).

My goal is to study hard for the next 12 months, and then try to join a band ( the type of band that plays lots of standards, gigs often, and so forth).

Now, I want to start learning songs. Any advice on the ten songs that sould be at the top of my list ?

I thought I had saved a list of common standards, but can't find it. I would say google and you should find quite a few. I mainly posted to say check out Jamy Aebersold website his play alongs.

http://www.aebersold.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc

Aebersold has many volumes of play along standards since what is considered standards over the years changes. Also since wanting to gig work on transposing because standard do get played in different key depending on if you are working with a singer, male or female singer, instrumenalist. So learn the song in way that is easy to transpose. Go over to the Double Bass side of TB they talk there are some good thread like this and good advise on ways to learn songs.

Good luck and have fun.
