Need some advice on right hand index finger problem, assistance please?

I have noticed something about my right hand technique that seems a little odd when compared to other bassists that I watch. When I strike the string with my fingers, my index finger seems to "collapse" as in the joints loosen and the tip kind of bends backwards I guess you could say?

It worries me a bit, I'm not sure if it deprives me of more speed, better tone, etc. I don't see many other bassist do it so that's why I'm a bit concerned. So would this be deemed a bad habit that needs correcting?

The best example I can find of this collapsing motion my finger does is in the link below. He begins showing it at around :20- :30 (Reminder: this is a slap video but this occurs when I play regular alternating two-finger and three-finger techniques)

YouTube - Victor Wooten Style Bass Technique - HOT!

Thanks for the help, much appreciated

Question is, how long have you noticed it? Does it hurt?
If you've been playing this way for years with no pain, then probably no biggie.
If you're in pain, you may want to re-think your technique.

I think it's normal. Even when I studied classical guitar the last joint was supposed to be flexible. Mine are like that when I play bass, too. Just watch to see if it is causing you to be late. Also the bend shouldn't come to a hard stop. If so, you are picking too hard.

I feel that it causes my attacks to become choppier. When I play the music of the metal band I am in, I struggle with the tremolo runs at times because of it.
