Need some help on my audition.

Hi all,

I've posted a thread on this before, pointing out how I got so nervous for my bass audition.
Some of you gave me pretty good tips and helped me to put things in perspective, and for that I'm grateful.

As a person with ADD I have some trouble planning things out and knowing what the right order or practice is. So I'd like your advice on what things I'd have to practice for my audition. The annoying thing about this audition is that they will not say how good you have to be to get on this school. They ask you to play two songs and I'm considering Downtown Song from Anberlin to be one of them. It's not a great song, but I figured my band already knows this song and there's a bass solo in it. This saves a lot of work and I think the song will do. As for the second song I'm not certain. I think I'm going to create a medley to make them see I can do more that one genre.

Anyway I'd like your opinion. How would you handle this? Downtown Song is right about my level on playing the bass. Other than that I know the notes on the bass, simple scales but I have trouble keeping rhythm. All tips and excercises are very welcome.

What school?
More than likely they will expect you to read music to graduate. Where are you on that?
There's a pretty good chance they'll want you to learn all kinds of different styles of music from different eras. Where are you on that?
There's a pretty good chance they'll reccommend you learn Double Bass. Where are you on that?
Why are you going to school for music? What do you hope to gain for the time and money you will spend?

If you're auditioning for music school, I would advise against this style of music for your piece. Nothing against it, but there's not a lot to it.

I second the questions asked above.

As a general rule for keeping one's head with ADD, I would suggest to write everything down, keep tons and tons of notes and reminders in multiple places, keep tons of recordings, just get it all into a format where you can constantly look over it and keep it straight. Good luck...I can sympathize with trying to stay organized, as I struggle with it myself although I am not officially diagnosed with ADD.
